Venous Overview

Varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance under the skin. They afflict an estimated 10%-20% of the adult population. In the United States, that translates into 20-25 million people, the majority of whom are women.

Evaluation for venous disease would involve a consultation with Dr. Challa. This often may be followed by a duplex ultrasound scan of the lower limbs to carefully look at all the major leg veins. This is performed at the office by our Registered Vascular Technician.

Based on your particular situation, Dr. Challa would tailor therapy if indicated. The treatment options include but are not limited to stockings, sclerotherapy to inject spider veins, microphlebectomy procedure that involves removing varicose veins through tiny incisions using special instruments and a non surgical office procedure to treat advanced venous issues called Radio Frequency Ablation. The Closure procedure is a minimally invasive treatment alternative for patients with a condition known as superficial venous reflux, which often results in varicose veins and other painful symptoms.
